Meeting Gaudí - Part Two

We continued our journey with the famous Sagrada Família, Gaudí's unfinished masterpiece, a truly magnificent building, an absolute must-see and the number one most visited attraction in Barcelona. The giant Basilica
has been under construction since 1882.
Gaudí based his ideas on the shapes as hyperboloids, helicoids, hyperbolic paraboloids.
Inside the church you get the impression that the roof is held up by trees, when actually are just extraordinary pillars. As they are making their way towards the ceiling, branches comes out of them, like a forest canopy, and that's what Gaudí wanted for you to see.
We also visited the Passion Tower which it is very high so I wouldn't recommend it if you are afraid of height. Also the passages are very narrow. From here you have a nice view over the city.
I also advise to buy the tickets online to avoid queing. You can just show them the electronic confirmation.
I was really impressed by the building. Unimaginable that Gaudí could have such a vision and be able to follow through.
                  Definetly a must-see!!

On the corner of Sagrada Família lot there is a small construction built by Gaudí between 1908 and 1909. This was destined to be a school for the sons of men who were working on the church.

Meeting Gaudí - Part One

We had reserved the entire day just to explore the city and to make visits to some of the works of Antonio Gaudí.
We started with  Palau Güell (Güell Palace) which is one of the first works of Gaudí and one of the most impressive buidings of the art nouveau.
Güell Palace it was home of the Güell i Lopez family. Was built between 1886 and 1888. It is situated in the Carrer Nou de la Rambla in the El Raval neighbourhood.
The palace is notable for its ingenious concept of light and space. Here Gaudí used traditional materials like wood, stone, pottery, wrought iron, glass etc, to create exceptional expressive forms.

Midnight in Barcelona

I really like walking by night through the cities streets, I can see another face of them, a different one. A little quieter than in the daytime, more mysterious, like under a spell.
And Barcelona has it. I enjoyed how the sky helped complete this scenario with the clouds trying to hide the beauty of the moon.
